What You’ll Need
- Your Ledger device (Nano S, Nano S Plus, or Nano X)
- A USB cable (provided with the device)
- A computer or smartphone with internet access
- Ledger Live app
- Access to Ledger Live login
- A safe environment (avoid public spaces or cameras)
Step 1: Unbox and Inspect
Carefully check the package for any signs of tampering. A sealed box and untouched contents indicate authenticity.
Important: Your Ledger device should not come with a pre-set PIN or recovery phrase. If it does, do not use it.
Step 2: Install Ledger Live
Visit Ledger.com/start, the official setup page.
Download and install Ledger Live for your operating system.
Open the app and click “Get Started.”
Step 3: Set Up Your Device
Connect your Ledger device to your computer or phone using the provided USB cable.
Select “Set up as new device.”
Create a secure 4–8 digit PIN code. Keep it private.
Your device will display 24 recovery words – this is your Recovery Phrase.
⚠️ Important: Write down the recovery phrase on the provided sheet. Never take a photo or store it online.
Confirm the phrase by selecting the words in the correct order on your device.
The device will now generate your private key based on this phrase.
Step 4: Connect with Ledger Live
In Ledger Live, choose “Check my Nano” to verify the device’s authenticity.
Follow the on-screen steps to pair and confirm the connection.
Once setup is complete, you’ll use Ledger Live to securely manage your assets.
Step 5: Add Crypto Accounts
In Ledger Live, go to Accounts > Add Account.
Choose the cryptocurrency you want to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
Follow the instructions to add the account and sync with the blockchain.
Step 6: Receive Crypto
Navigate to Accounts > Receive.
Select the account, then verify the address displayed on your Ledger device.
Copy and share this address to securely receive crypto.
Step 7: Send Crypto (Optional)
Go to Accounts > Send.
Enter the recipient’s address and amount.
Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device to complete the transfer.

Store your recovery phrase offline in a safe place.
Enable a password lock for Ledger Live.
Never share your PIN or recovery phrase.
